The DEM was developed from 4 major New Jersey LiDAR collection projects undertaken between 2014 and 2019. Bare earth points from the original point clouds were re-sampled to create 10 foot resolution bare earth models for each individual project. These individual 10 foot resolution models were then merged to create the statewide DEM.&lt;/SPAN&gt;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;/DIV&gt;&lt;/DIV&gt;</idAbs>
<idPurp>This layer was created to provide a 3D rendering of the 10 foot resolution bare earth DEM for the State of New Jersey.</idPurp>

<suppInfo>ADVISORY: Note that the process to create the DEM layer used to generate this hillshade file involves re-sampling the original bare earth LiDAR point clouds to create new consistent 10 foot resolution surfaces for each separate collection. Since re-sampling requires a re-calculation of elevation surface values, there may be some differences in the elevation measured at any location in this layer when compared to the elevation at the same location as measured from the original project DEM surfaces, or from the original point clouds themselves. These differences may be discernible when comparing this 10-foot resolution hillshade file with those generated from the original resolution project DEMs. Finally, users should be aware that temporal changes in surface topography may have occurred since the LiDAR data used to generate this layer were collected and that some parts of this data set may no longer represent actual surface conditions.</suppInfo>

<measDesc>The individual LiDAR collection projects used in developing the statewide DEM each have their own vertical accuracy analysis done as part of the verification process undertaken for each project. These analyses are described in the reports or metadata created for each project. These files are listed under the 'Cross References' section of the DEM metadata, and should be reviewed to understand the accuracy specifications of each original collection. The reported fundamental or non-vegetated accuracies for each of the 4 collections reported at the 95% confidence limits are as follows: DVRPC, .272 ft.; USGS CGM Sandy LiDAR, .377 ft.; New Jersey NW 6 County LiDAR, .503 ft; USGS South New Jersey LiDAR, .29 ft. In addition, an analysis was undertaken to examine the vertical accuracy of the 10 ft. surface in relation to the original project DEMs at the original resolutions, using the post compilation ground control points collected for each project. These points were surveyed for each project and used to complete the initial accuracy assessment of each of the project data sets, results of which are reported above. Elevation values at each point were extracted from the 10-foot DEM and compared with the surveyed elevations for those points. The mean absolute differences between the values extracted from the 10 ft project DEMS and the surveyed elevation values were determined for each point,and these used to calculate the RMSEz and the 95% confidence limits of the elevation accuracy per the NSSDA testing methodology. The results are as follows: DVRPC collection .405 ft; Post Sandy collection .469; NW collection .658 ft; SJ collection .304 ft; aggregate .421 ft.</measDesc>
